PQ2 Character Chuck

Chuck Whitney is an officer with the Lytton Police Department. In 1988, he was assigned to the Special Forces division as a SWAT team leader.

Background[]

On the second day of Jessie Bains' escape from Lytton City Jail, Chuck and his partner responded to detective Sonny Bonds' request for backup at the Snuggler's Inn, where Bains was suspected to be holed up. When a shotgun booby-trap set up by Bains blew his motel room door open, Chuck fired a gas grenade into the room to neutralize anyone inside. However, Bains was no longer there, having already left for Steelton with hostage Marie Wilkans.

Events[]

On the second day of Jessie Bains' escape from Lytton City Jail, detective Sonny Bonds found clues left by Bains on the body of Woody Roberts, pointing to the Snuggler's Inn motel in north-western Lytton. Bonds and partner Keith Robinson arrived at the motel, and quickly determined that Bains was indeed staying at the motel under a false name. Robinson contacted Dispatch and requested a search warrant of the room, as well as a backup unit to support a raid into the room.

Officer Chuck and his partner arrived shortly afterwards in a marked patrol cruiser. Chuck was armed with an M79 grenade launcher, while his partner was armed with an M-16 assault rifle. The two men took cover behind the doors of their police cruiser, parked in front of Room 108 where Bains was suspected to be holed up.

Serving the warrant and acquiring the key to Room 108, Bonds took up a position next to the door and attempted to open it. The door was then blasted from the inside by a shotgun shell. Responding immediately, officer Chuck fired a tear gas grenade through the room's window, quickly filling the room with gas. Once the gas cleared, Bonds and Robinson stormed into the room to find it unoccupied; the shotgun was rigged to the door as a booby-trap.

In the vocab list this character is known as Chuck, and Chuck, Whitney. Indicating the characters surname.

Chuck's last name is never mentioned in Police Quest II, the only game in which he appears. He is one of only two named LPD officers in the game who do not have a file in the digital records – the other being Officer Moore, also from the Special Forces division.

Due to a sprite design error, Chuck turns into his partner during the two frames in which he fires the gas grenade through the window.

In the Casebook, the character Ken Wills appears instead of Chuck.
